Spring Hill

When I was a boy, my dad and I went fishing a lot. We fished from docks, we fished from the banks of lakes, and from canoes and bass boats. Good times! It was also during those times of “man versus fish” that I learned an important term; “cast.” My dad taught me to take my rod, place the bait on a hook (sometimes it took days to wash the worm guts from my fingers) and “cast” the bait out into the water. By definition, the word “cast” means to throw something forcefully in a specified direction.  For years that is all the word “cast” meant to me; cast the bait out into the water and hope for the best.

Then something happened in my life; I became a Christian! One of the many wonderful things that happened after that is the term “cast” had a whole new wonderful application. In the book of 1 Peter, we learn of a wonderful invitation….

1 Peter 5:6-7 - Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him because he cares for you.

The scripture gives us a great invitation; cast your anxieties on The Lord. Take your burdens, struggles, heartaches, uncertainties, and fear, and cast them; throw them specifically to the Lord. Why would we do this? Because He cares! Don't miss that. HE CARES! He actually cares. See, we don't have to cast our anxiety on Him and just hope we will get lucky. We cast our anxiety to the Lord Jesus with the knowledge that He cares. And because Our Lord cares, He always listens and He answers. Our amazing God may not answer the way we would hope, yet He always answers in a way that is good, and best, and gives Him glory.

Friends, it has been a stressful week preparing for and enduring Hurricane Irma. Gas and water shortages, no plywood and empty store shelves, no electric, or places to go. There is a lot of stress in our community and state. I feel it. I know you do, too. However, in the chaos, hear this sweet invitation, “Cast (forcefully throw) your cares, your anxieties, your troubles on Him. HE CARES FOR YOU!
